On Sunday, September 29, LPN member Nuestras Raices, Inc. is presenting a Parade of Latino Nations through Highlandtown. This is the first year for this event, and it's an exciting opportunity for Latinos to celebrate their culture and history during Hispanic Heritage Month!

The LPN is a sponsor for this event, and as part of our sponsorship, 10 LPN members who are non-profits can participate in the parade and/or accompanying festival for FREE! These spots are available on a first come, first serve basis.

For the festival, a table will be provided, but you must supply your own tent.

If you are interested in participating through the LPN spots, please complete this Google form:  https://forms.gle/8UTuivrpBsoRutr16

Once the 10 spots are filled, the LPN will confirm your organization's participation as part of the LPN sponsorship. Then you will be asked to submit a participant application to Nuestras Raices for their records.

If you are not one of the first 10 LPN members to respond, you can still participate in the event by completing the participant application and sending it directly to Nuestras Raices.

The Google Form will be closed when we have confirmed the 10 LPN organizations.

I am happy to announce that the new fiscal year has started, which means I can now enroll new families in the Highlandtown Family Stability Program.  Please share the attached flier with your clients and community contacts.

The Highlandtown Family Stability Program provides emergency financial assistance and intensive case management to families who are in danger of losing their housing and/or having a utility turned off.  To be eligible for the Highlandtown Family Stability Program, families must have at least one child at one of the following elementary/middle schools:

    ·          Highlandtown #215

    ·          Highlandtown #237

    ·          John Ruhrah

    ·          Tench Tilghman

(To find out about other Family Stability Programs that work with other schools, call 211.)

Families who apply for the Highlandtown Family Stability Program must:

    ·          Be able to show they are at immediate risk of losing their housing or having a utility turned off (ex: eviction notice, landlord letter, utility bill, etc.)

    ·          Have enough income to be able to pay their housing bills after receiving a one-time financial assistance.  All types of income are counted.  Families with no income will not be eligible.

    ·          Be interested in working on longer-term financial stability goals, and be willing to meet regularly with the case manager (me) to work on these goals for a minimum of 6 months.

There is also a pre-screening form that you can use to determine whether someone is likely to be eligible for the Highlandtown Family Stabiltiy Program.  Using this form is optional and meant to be helpful.  It is always okay to refer a family and have me do all the screening.

There are no requirements regarding IDs or immigration status.  In fact, I highly encourage you to refer clients who have trouble seeking assistance from other agencies due to these types of barriers.  I speak Spanish and can work with clients who speak other languages using phone interpretation services.

You can refer a family to my program by calling or emailing me, or encouraging families to contact me directly.  My phone number is 443-208-7401 and my email is kate@southeastcdc.org

    Thank you,

    Kate Jakuta

Congratulations to LPN Board President David Rosario on his selection as a 2017 Top MBE winner!

The Capital Region Minority Supplier Development Council announced that David Rosario, Owner of the David Rosario State Farm insurance Agency was named a 2017 Top 100 MBE® winner. This award recognizes owners of minority business enterprises in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia who have demonstrated exceptional entrepreneurial accomplishments, a high level of professionalism, and have made substantial contributions to their community.

The Top 100 MBE Awards® began in 2007 and evolved through a need to recognize and celebrate the creativity and innovation of regional MBEs who are role models and inspire the entire community.

David Rosario said, “I'm honored to be recognized among some great MDE businesses. It is truly awesome to do the work you love to do and get an award for doing it. A wonderful feeling!  Our insurance office is well positioned to provide great customer service and education around managing risks. We not only offer the product, we take the time to educate and make sure our clients understand what is being covered."

The Top 100 MBE Awards® will be presented at the CRMSDC’s 36th Annual Leaders and Legends Awards Ceremony, on November 2nd at the MGM National Harbor.
